Join Dan Dourson and Judy Dourson, authors of Wildflowers and Ferns of Red River Gorge and the Greater Red River Basin, for a hike in the Cave Fork Recreational Preserve on Saturday, June 6, at 9:30 a.m. in Lee County.

The hike is sponsored by the Kentucky Native Plant Society and the Red River Gorge Climbing Coalition (RRGCC).

The hike will focus on the history of the RRGCC property and the process of forest succession. By closely examining the ecology of the preserve, participants will gain insight into how the Red River Gorge has regenerated since it was the site of industrial timber operations in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Plants that may be seen on the property this time of year include Redring Milkweed (Asclepias variegata), Great Laurel Rhododendron (Rhododendron maximum), and Climbing Fern (Lygodium palmatum).

The hike is approximately 2 miles along old logging roads and may be strenuous at times.

Pre-registration is required. Please register using the form below. Participation is limited to 30 people.
